I remember  when I was in my 20′s, that I would get excited about finding ways of making a lot of money.

Money is important, but there are many other aspects of life to get excited about also.

Why attend college? Here are some college degree benefits related to your health from this research:

3) College adults between the ages of 25 to 44 are healthier and more active, and are 14 percent less likely to be obese than high school graduates. This is obviously due to eating habits and having knowledge related to nutrition.

4) Adults ages 25 to 34 with an undergraduate degree are nearly twice as likely to exercise vigorously and thus have less health problems.

5) The smoking rate among those with a bachelor’s degree is 9 percent, while the rate for those with a high school diploma only is 27 percent.

6) The percentage of people with degrees who donate their time to community organizations is higher than other groups.

This last item is very important because the most powerful indicator of success, in my opinion, is changing people’s lives for the better.

A college degree will open the doors to more choices and more opportunities to help you achieve all you can in your life.

I think it’s time to prescribe some major dietary changes to these bloated college tuition rates.

Before I do that, let’s take a brief look back into college tuition prices in the past.

Grab the ice cream because this going to be shocking.

Almost 40 years ago, the average college tuition for 1 year was only $500. By the early 1980′s, it doubled.

By 1990, it more than doubled again to around $2300. In the year 2000, it was about $4000.

Here we are in 2010, and the average college tuition cost is $7000 per year. And this is for the state colleges.

Now my wife and I are raising 8 awesome children with one who recently graduated from high school.

We decided we were not going to keep feeding calories to the college system.

That was a question my wife and I had as our son was close to completing his senior year of high school.

We did some painful research and discovered that average college costs had increased “a little” from 30 years ago when we attended college.

When I say ” a little”, I mean a little too much to believe. State college tuitions for 1 year in 1978 was around $1000 in the South. Now, you are looking at $6000 – $8000 a year.

We were not going to go the route of student loans either.

We found out that necessity truly brings forth inventive ideas. Maybe it was just stubbornness on our part.

Whatever it was, we were determined to find a way to make this work, and did we get the surprise of our lives.

Home Schooler Takes On Today’s Average College Costs

Ladies and Gentlemen…

In this corner, we have today’s average college costs.

In the other corner, we have the American home schooler who just graduated from high school.

College costs really look bulked up and ready for this fight. The average cost of college in America looks tough to beat.

You are looking at tuition and fees, room and board, out-of-state fees, transportation costs, extra living expenses,and hopefully no legal fees to get bailed out of jail.

The hefty price tag for one year with this seasoned fighter is about $17,000 for the public state colleges.

The scales are really tipping over for the private universities at about $40,000 a year.

The American home schooler has a look of determination in his eyes, though. The word we have from his trainer is that he plans on employing a rather unique strategy.

On the surface folks, this doesn’t look like much of a contest.

There’s the bell!

Today’s average college cost really comes out swinging but this home schooling lad is quick on his feet and a great counter-puncher.

ROUND 1: The home schooler got the edge by using the CLEP testing service to get 30 college credits without paying a dime in tuition and cutting costs by much more than 50%.

ROUND 2: Average college costs is getting winded as his challenger is now using the DANTES testing service in addition to CLEP to attain college credits related to his choice for a bachelor’s degree.

ROUND 3:Things are really looking bad for the university champion as this wise opponent has transferred 90 college credits to a regionally accredited online university.

ROUND 4: The home schooler is the new champion over today’s average college costs with a knock-out by finishing his senior year with on-line classes and is holding his undergraduate high for everyone to see.

I’ll be the first one to admit that college isn’t for everyone. The ridiculous average college tuition fees, however, should not stop those students who are capable of succeeding at this level.

1) $7000 per year for in-state public universities,

The simple answer is to eliminate the tuition cost. Yes, it can be done both legally and most ethically.
