Prepare for Shabbat this evening (another reminder of the importance of Sabbath rest)
Leviticus 23:3 ‘For six days work may be done, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work [on that day]; it is the Sabbath of the Lord wherever you may be.”
Genesis 2:2-3 “And by the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested (ceased) on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it [as His own, that is, set it apart as holy from other days], because in it He rested from all His work which He had created and done.”
Isaiah 58:13 “If you turn back your foot from (unnecessary travel on) the Sabbath, From doing your own pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a [spiritual] delight, and the holy day of the Lord honorable, And honor it, not going your own way Or engaging in your own pleasure Or speaking your own [idle] words, Then you will take pleasure in the Lord, And I will make you ride on the high places of the earth, And I will feed you with the [promised] heritage of Jacob your father; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. “
If our Creator decided to rest one day, then we must adhere to His wisdom. We do not need to make this into some type of religious ritual, we just need to do it. It is a day to step away from our usual work into a time of remembering Him, His goodness, and enjoying some rest.
I can remember when I decided that I needed to obey this important law of God. It was difficult to not wash, or clean, or do the normal things I did, but I persevered and now I can truly say I call His Sabbath my delight. Remember, I was the one whose son said, “Mom why do you want to live long, all you do is work?”
