Devotional Shevat 29, 5780 – Be Like Mary

Luke 1:45 And blessed [spiritually fortunate and favored by God] is she who believed and confidently trusted that there would be a fulfillment of the things that were spoken to her [by the angel sent] from the Lord.”

Luke 2:19 “But Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them and pondering them in her heart.

Luke 1:35-38 “Then the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a shining cloud]; and so the holy (pure, sinless) (Offspring) which shall be born of you will be called the Son of God. And listen! Your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is now the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment. Then Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be done to me according to what you have said. And the angel left her.

What an honor to learn from the witness of Mary within Scripture!  Mary was one who gave herself up totally to the will of the Father and responded to Yahweh as a servant, a slave to His mastering. She confidently trusted in Him to protect her in an environment where becoming pregnant outside of wedlock could have meant being sold into slavery or being stoned to death.

She did not even seem to blink an eye, but fully submitted to God’s will. She was wise enough to treasure all of the things He showed her and carefully pondered them within her heart. She lived a life of faith, trusting and knowing she would see fulfillment of those things promised by the Lord! I believe we are fully equipped to be like Mary, bondservants or handmaidens to be used for His glory.

Let us spend some time singing, reciting, or meditating on Mary’s song – then create our own very special song to Him:

Luke 1:46-55 “And Mary said, my soul magnifies and extols the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my SaviorFor He has looked upon the low station and humiliation of His handmaiden.

For behold, from now on all generations [of all ages] will call me blessed and declare me happy and to be envied! For He who is almighty has done great things for me—and holy is His name [to be venerated in His purity, majesty and glory]! And His mercy (His compassion and kindness toward the miserable and afflicted) is on those who fear Him with godly reverence, from generation to generation and age to age.

He has shown strength and made might with His arm; He has scattered the proud and haughty in and by the imagination and purpose and designs of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of low degree.

He has filled and satisfied the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty-handed [without a gift]. He has laid hold on His servant Israel [to help him, to espouse his cause], in remembrance of His mercy, Even as He promised to our forefathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.

Devotional Shevat 28, 5780 – Word Made Flesh

Can His Word Become Flesh Within Us?

John 1:12-14 “ But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. The Word Becomes Flesh and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

1 Peter 1:23 “… for you have been born again [that is, reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose] not of seed which is perishable but [from that which is] imperishable and immortal, that is, through the living and everlasting word of God. For, and this is the word [the good news of salvation] which was preached to you:

“All flesh is like grass, And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls off, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word [the good news of salvation] which was preached to you.

Proverbs 4:22 for they are life to those who find them, and healing and health to all their flesh.

John 6:55 For My flesh is true [spiritual] food, and My blood is true [spiritual] drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood [believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior] remains in Me, and I [in the same way remain] in him.”

As we mediate or chew on His Word, hide it in our hearts; and as we remember Him through eating His body and drinking His blood, His Word can become flesh within us. When we are sowing His Word into our flesh, it must bear lasting and abundant fruit

There are many Scriptures He has given us, promises that He has had us feed upon till they have become literally a part of our flesh; nothing can shake us off of them. I believe every Christian is 100 percent sure about John 3:16, but we must be as equally sure of Psalms 103:3-5, and Isaiah 53:4 and on and on. We need to have our minds, bodies, and Spirits completely saturated till His Word becomes our very flesh.

Devotional Shevat 27, 5780 – His Word Stands Forever

Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain and snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth, Making it bear and sprout, And providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

Psalms 199:80 “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven [standing firm and unchangeable].

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”

Hebrews 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Do we believe the Scriptures above? If His Word cannot come back void, if His Word is forever settled in Heaven, If His Word stands forever, if His Word is upholding all things; then why would we have a moment of concern? Instead of listening to any other report, we must know without a shadow of a doubt that His Word is never coming back void. Once we get this mindset, nothing can come against us or those we are interceding for or the families and nations we are a part of!

We must gather every Scripture we need for the situations or circumstances we are in prayer about. For example: Parents dealing with prodigals can rest knowing His Word if forever settled in Heaven – Isaiah 54:13 “all of their children are taught by the Lord”, Isaiah 59:21 “Your Word and Your Spirit will not depart from their lips now and forevermore”, Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child and he will not depart”, Isaiah 44:3 “pour my Spirit on your offspring and your blessing on your descendants” and any other Word He unveils.

Decreeing these, standing on these, and hiding them in our hearts will keep us from the sin of unbelief and bolster our faith when necessary.

This same principle applies in every situation or circumstance we may encounter. We must learn to live by standing firm on His unchangeable forever settled in Heaven Holy Word.

Prayer: Thank you, most glorious Father in Heaven for Your Precious Word. God, You are faithful, we will rest in Your promises knowing all of Your promises are yes and amen!

Confession: “Amen to the glory of God!”

2 Corinthians 1:18-20 “But [as surely as] God is faithful and means what He says, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No” [at the same time]. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not “Yes” and “No,” but has proved to be “Yes” in Him [true and faithful, the divine “Yes” affirming God’s promises]. For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.” So through Him we say our “Amen” to the glory of God.

Prepare for Shabbat this evening (another reminder of the importance of Sabbath rest)

Leviticus 23:3 ‘For six days work may be done, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work [on that day]; it is the Sabbath of the Lord wherever you may be.

Genesis 2:2-3 “And by the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested (ceased) on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it [as His own, that is, set it apart as holy from other days], because in it He rested from all His work which He had created and done.

Isaiah 58:13 “If you turn back your foot from (unnecessary travel on) the Sabbath, From doing your own pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a [spiritual] delight, and the holy day of the Lord honorable, And honor it, not going your own way Or engaging in your own pleasure Or speaking your own [idle] words, Then you will take pleasure in the Lord, And I will make you ride on the high places of the earth, And I will feed you with the [promised] heritage of Jacob your father; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

If our Creator decided to rest one day, then we must adhere to His wisdom. We do not need to make this into some type of religious ritual, we just need to do it. It is a day to step away from our usual work into a time of remembering Him, His goodness, and enjoying some rest.

I can remember when I decided that I needed to obey this important law of God. It was difficult to not wash, or clean, or do the normal things I did, but I persevered and now I can truly say I call His Sabbath my delight. Remember, I was the one whose son said, “Mom why do you want to live long, all you do is work?”

The benefits of celebrating His calendar, His feasts, His Shabbat are indescribable. If you haven’t already, why not download “My Jewish Cookbook” at https://familylifewinners.com/gods-calendar-cookbook

Shabbat Shalom!

Devotional Shevat 25, 5780 – Five To 5 Thousand

Matthew 14:16-21 “ But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away; you give them something to eat!”  They replied, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Then He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and He took the five loaves and the two fish and, looking up toward heaven, He blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people, and they all ate and were satisfied. They picked up twelve full baskets of the leftover broken pieces. There were about 5,000 men who ate, besides women and children.

2 Corinthians 9:10-11 Now He who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed for sowing [that is, your resources] and increase the harvest of your righteousness [which shows itself in active goodness, kindness, and love].You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous, and this [generosity, administered] through us is producing thanksgiving to God [from those who benefit].

Can we multiply like this? Years ago, with 10 at home and only Michael working, we were always supplied but I wanted huge seed to sow. One morning I heard the Lord say to me, “Sow $5.00 to 10 ministries and I will multiply that to $5,000.00 for each!” I was truly excited and I faithfully sowed my $5.00 to the ministries/families He had put within my heart to bless.

I kept His promise in my heart. I had faith, but I cannot really say I did anything special, I just acted on His Word to me. Months later we received a check that allowed us to bless each of these 10 ministries/families with this $5,000.00 multiplied seed.

It would be many years later when we felt the Lord wanted us to move to another state, and as part of the Lord’s confirmation process, one of these we had sown the $5,000, doubled this seed back to us!

Prayer: Father, help us to hear You even more clearly; and believe You for the multiplication necessary to supply the needs of many abundantly above all they could ask or think. Thank you Lord for providing see to sow and bread for food and for multiplying our seed for sowing and increasing the harvest of our righteousness. Let us live a life enriched in every way so that we may be generous, producing thanksgiving to You from all who benefit!

Confession: I am enriched in every way so that I may be generous. My generosity will benefit many and produce thanksgiving to You.

Devotional Shevat 24, 5780 – Never Question God’s Goodness

Psalm 27:13I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.

Psalm 31:19 “How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who [reverently] fear You.

John 10:10 “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].

James 4:7 “So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.

1 Peter 2:3-6 “Which You have prepared for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of man! If in fact you have [already] tasted the goodness and gracious kindness of the Lord. Come to Him [the risen Lord] as to a living Stone which men rejected and threw away, but which is choice and precious in the sight of God. You [believers], like living stones, are being built up into a spiritual house for a holy and dedicated priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices [that are] acceptable and pleasing to God through Jesus Christ. For this is contained in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a chosen stone, a precious (honored) Cornerstone, and he who believes in Him [whoever adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Him] will never be disappointed [in his expectations].”

We need to have this simple mindset day in and day out. God equals goodness. If something comes into our lives that is not bringing abundant life, it is not from God. Not only is He good, but He also, only brings good to us!

Many times Christians allow themselves to believe that being transformed into the image of Christ means God putting them through hell so they learn to persevere and become more like Christ. Nothing can be further from the truth. In fact, He did everything, even sacrificing His Only Begotten Son, so that we could experience an abundant life!

When we bear the cross, we must deny ourselves something we want in order to follow, but sickness, and anything else that kills, steals, or destroys comes straight from the pit of hell and we must resist these things. When we submit to the Lord, and follow Him there will be lots of moments where we must choose Yahweh over others, over our heart’s desires, or our preferences. Then we are taking up our cross and following Him.

God is only good! God brings only good! God will never disappoint you. We must expect to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Forgive me if I have ever questioned Your goodness.

Confession: God is so good! I am confident I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!

Devotional Shevat 23, 5780 – Desires Of Our Hearts

Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.

Mark 11:24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you.

Esther 2:13 “then the young woman would go before the king in this way: anything that she wanted was given her to take with her from the harem into the king’s palace.

Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.

Do we really believe this is the result of delighting in Him How do we delight in the Lord, exactly?  I love the definition I found for delight: verb 1. To please (someone) greatly. “an experience guaranteed to delight both young and old”

synonyms: please greatly, charm, enchant, captivate, entrance, bewitch, thrill, excite, take someone’s breath away;

As a mom of 11 children, I know my heart is filled with a desire to bless each of my children abundantly above. And yet, our Heavenly Father’s love is greater still. Delighting in Him, Knowing He is a Rewarder, and Walking in Faith are our ways to please Him and to be a delight to Him.

The moment my children are not delighting in me it is usually because they are outside of something I have told them is best for them, which closes their ability to receive from me. Can we delight in Him if we are not obeying His precepts, His wisdom, His plan?

His Word clearly states His desire is to bless and reward us. Maybe we need to start taking Him at His Word, and stop over analyzing His every point. I think it is really that simple. I believe He is longing for us to be that kid who knows His parent loves everything about Him and will give him his heart’s desires.

Let us begin from and build on a foundation of delighting in all of His ways. As we trust in His goodness, we will soar to greater heights of His glory.

Devotional Shevat 22, 5780 – Construction Within

Have you ever heard that you are work in progress? That may not sound like much of a compliment but it is the absolute truth for all of us. We are just at different stages of construction in our lives with one master builder at work in us – the King of kings and Lord of lords.

The issue comes down to how well or how poorly we cooperate with the Master. Well, the real issue comes down to the fact that we can take great comfort and encouragement in that He is at work in us, renewing us, bringing us to new levels of advancement.

How are we to be advancing? Philippians 2: 13 says that He is working in us to achieve greater levels of desire and ability to please Him. This is an amazing part of the renewal process that is on-going within us. We will see the fruit of this internal construction or renewing more as we embrace and celebrate His activating presence within us.

We do have a part to play in this – how well we co-labor with His Holy Spirit. We all have issues with this in the past as we have foolishly thought we knew better or just let fear or impatience get the better of us. No matter the frequency of our lack of cooperation, He is there willing to welcome us back to a wise place of allowing His will to rule in our lives.

Are we living every day staying focused on what Yahweh’s will is for us and that our mission in life is for His good pleasure?
