Homeschooling 101: 10 Easy Steps To Homeschooling

Homeschooling 101, there are 10 easy steps to homeschooling your children which are guaranteed to take the frustration out of this amazing journey.  Homeschooling is such a great benefit to your homeschooling 101 children and to yourself! Do not let this overwhelm you!

As a mom of 11 children who was blessed to homeschool 10 at one time, I can testify you are the best teacher for your children. No one cares more about their education then you. Though this blog is designed to help you, this Homeschooling 101 course is about you being you!

Each of your children have such unique characteristics, and you know their inner workings and what motivates them like no one else. Realize this moment, you are fully equipped to do this. Decide to plunge into this adventure wholeheartedly, the rewards outweigh all the work and sacrifice. Decide to enjoy this  journey. Make each homeschooling day- a day of adventure and fun. Wishing you joy in this task!

Homeschooling 101: The Steps

Step 1:  What do I need to get started? First and foremost, pray and ask God for His wisdom and leadership. If you are not a Christian, I will be praying for you! The Creator of all things desires to help you create the best homeschooling 101 experience specific to you and your family!

Step 2: Join HSLDA! You must learn the homeschooling requirements for your state and stay true to those goals. HSLDA has all the information needed to get started. They also can connect you with homeschooling groups within your state, curriculum book fairs, provide help every step of your path, while guiding you with resources to help you stay current with your state’s requirements.

Step 3: Choose a curriculum best for you and your children. My favorite was Christian Liberty because they incorporate a variety of the best homeschooling curriculum into one easy to use site.   Christianbook.com also provides a huge inventory of the absolute best curriculum to choose from. Both links are included here:

Get Organized

Step 4: Purchasing a good Lesson Plan book is essential to your Homeschooling 101 plan. This lesson planner will be your friend. After looking at the scope and sequence (a list of the concepts, topics, and material that is covered in a book, course, or the lesson plans of a particular curriculum) of your children’s curriculum, you will use this lesson planner to add daily tasks that will help them complete their goals weekly, monthly, quarterly until the expected end.

These lesson planners may be used even for new readers. Because the ages of my children varied I even used pictures to help our youngest understand their assignments-this helped them feel like they could get up and get started just like their older siblings.

I do recommend drawing or writing encouraging notes to your kids on a weekly basis in these planners. This is where you completely design your homeschooling to fit you! It is your very own children’s planners– fill them with your personality and love. My favorite planner can be found at: https://www.milestonebooks.com/item/1-19081/?list=Teacher_Helps

Some Details

Step 5: Read over the curriculum and familiarize yourself with the books in a general way. You do not need to read every book. Remember this is a learning experience for the whole family. What you have forgotten from schooling days you will become refreshed together as you study with your kids and you will learn new things together. Enjoy the journey!

Step 6: Decide what you must do weekly to complete your curriculum in your chosen time frame. Some school all year with a month off, others follow traditional school time with a 2- or 3-month break. The good news is you can create your own timetable based on your family’s schedules. When our children were younger on beautiful days, we would head to the park after breakfast and enjoy an hour or more of playing, and head home for a relaxing day of learning. You are not only the best teacher, but the best activity coordinator for your family. You know what works best like no one else ever could!

 You Are Almost There

Step 7: Purchase notebooks, pencils, pens, paper, craft or experiment supplies you will need on a weekly or monthly basis, whichever suits you best.

Step 8:  Homeschooling 101 day by day: Write the lessons for the week in your child’s lesson  planner. Give each of them daily assignments. Expect them to begin  work each morning and plan a time to meet with them to go over, teach, and correct. Depending on ages of children and/or lesson for the day, you will know whether to meet with them early in the day or later after they have completed their assignment. Younger children may need to sit at a table with you throughout the time of school to receive ongoing assistance. Your older children can read and answer questions in some subjects and then meet later for teaching, exams, etc.

Step 9: Be prudent, but flexible. Though you do want to honor this privilege by being judicious and establishing a good routine; be pliable when it calls for a bit of flexibility. Homeschooling is so chock full of educational value and lack of wasted time you will easily obtain your goals if you remain consistent. Allow for visits to grandma’s, field trips, parks, etc. that can enhance your homeschooling days. You are free!

Step 10: Be thankful for this gift. When you look back you will appreciate the gift of being able to spend your children’s best days together! Time goes too fast. Quality time with them is a treasure. You are building so much more than a school, you are building bridges to their future and to yours. It is well worth it all!

WOW – so this is how  homeschooling 101 looks. You are destined for this journey! You will do what you thought you never could because you love and care for those gifts given to you from above like no one else ever could. You will give your children everything they need to grow into amazing adults who learn from the very ones God entrusted with to teach them well!

Deuteronomy 6:5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Jesus finished His Work-It is Finished! Act Accordingly!

Jesus finished His Work-It is finished! Act Accordingly!  If Yeshua finished His “work” (to destroy the works of the enemy 1 John 3:3), why are we seeing the devil’s work all around us? Is God a man that He would lie? (Numbers 23:19) No, not at all! He finished His work and sat down at the right hand of God the Father Almighty!  (Hebrews 10:11-14)

It is imperative that we remember He gave authority to us, His church, to trample snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy. (Luke 10:19) What are we doing with all that power? (Romans 8:11)? I know what I do sometimes, and it is so pathetic of me-I whine to the Lord about how I need Him to help me even after all He has done, all He has sacrificed, and all He has provided.

Could it be that we, the Church, are not stepping up here? Yes, His very own children are the main issue in what we see as way too many lives falling into sin, sickness, and destruction. We have allowed the enemy to rule when our Father sent HIs very own Son to destroy the work of the enemy;  handing us the keys!(Matthew 16:19) When we, His church submit to Him and seek Him first (Matthew 6:33) and decide to resist the enemy, and the enemy must and will flee! (James 4:7-10)

It is finished! It is time for us to wake up and act accordingly! He completely finished His work! It is our turn! If we are fed up with seeing the enemy destroying people, communities, churches, children, etc. all around us; we must act accordingly! Resist the enemy and watch him flee! How can we act accordingly? (Ephesians4:27-30)

  1.  Whatever God says, start believing! Is not every jot and tittle of His Word fact, not fiction? (Matthew 5:18, John 11:40,  Matthew 11:24)
  2. Submit to God! (Matthew 6:33) Give Him 1st place!
  3. Resist the enemy by doing exactly what Jesus did, use HIs Word as the strong powerful weapon it is!  (Matthew 4:4, 1 Peter 5:8-9, Jeremiah 23:29)
  4. Praise the Lord till you see the results! (2 Chronicles 20:22, Acts 16:25-26)

We will stand with you in this fight and we are happy to provide assistance. Let us honor our God and His Son by using all the power provided us and watch the enemy flee! To receive periodic texts of encouragement, please go to: https://www.familylifewinners.com/ambassador-journey

Becoming One – Two Shall Become One Flesh

Becoming One 7-Day Marriage Devotional

Genesis 2:24 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh.”

Matthew 19:5 “and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

Mark 10:8 “and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.”

Ephesians 5:31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

Day 1

Meditate on Mark 10:8. The word “one” denotes ONENESS in such a way that others are excluded. Do you always think about your spouse as the same as yourself in your thoughts, your actions, your soul, or in your choices? Ask the Lord to help you see your spouse as a very part of your body as if your spouse equals you.  Forget the psychologists who try to call some forms of oneness, codependence. Ask the Lord to strip away all worldly ideas on marriage and make a decision today to be truly one with your mate. Ask the Lord for grace on this journey and make a commitment to discover what He means by becoming one.

Day 2

Meditate on Genesis 2:24. If you and your spouse are one, there should be no division when it comes to walking out your values. Talk about your thoughts on ethical matters and make sure they align with His Word. Repent for any disunity you have had due to continuing unethical thinking contrary to His Holy Word. Ask Him to help you become truly one.

Day 3

Look in the mirror. Meditate on James 1:23-25 “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror, for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty and abides by it not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer this man will be blessed in what he does.”

Are you seeing yourself as one with your spouse, completely united at the hip? Are you taking the same care of your spouse as yourself or as your own body? Do you want to be a doer of HIs Word? There are no options. You are one flesh! Proceed accordingly! Decide to remember who you are in Christ and who  you are pertaining to your spouse every time you look into a mirror.

Day 4

Meditate on Ephesians 5:31. One also means to be united most closely in will, and spirit; a single, one thing exclusive of the rest; one and the same; primarily one; the same in importance and esteem.

Write a list of things that you seem to be completely one in, as well as, a list of things you are not. Take that list and share it with one another. Decide to decimate the things that divide you, and begin to enhance the things that make you one. If we truly want to follow Christ, is this a choice?

Day 5

One flesh is our goal only because the Lord commanded this for us. Meditate on Ephesians 5:22-32 “Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord for the husband is head of the wife as also Christ is head of the church and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her that He might sanctify and cleanse her with washing of water by the word that He might present her to Himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy without blemish. So, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body of His flesh and His bones. For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”

How are you aligning with His plan for marriage? Repent for any way you have been dishonoring His Word! Make a list of ways you can help one another restore, reclaim, and recover all the Lord wants for your marriage.  Give this the importance His Word demands.

Day 6

Our flesh can be defined as the part that can be stripped off from the bone; the soft substance of living body which covers the bones and is permeated with blood; animal nature with its cravings which incite our physical nature and can be subject to suffering sin.

How deeply do you see yourself as one flesh? Are you experiencing in your own body your spouse’s sufferings? Are you fighting  as if it were you going through whatever the circumstance?  If we are truly one flesh, we should find their experiences ours, the same pains, the same hurts, and the same joys! We can also appropriate by faith the extraordinary saving results of the violent death endured by Christ our Savior for one another.  Becoming one is becoming inter-dependent, shutting he door on any opposition from the enemy of our souls. If His blood truly permeates us, will we allow Him, the Word become flesh to rule every aspect of our lives?

 Day 7

Meditate on these: “Let thy husband render to the wife due benevolence and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife has no power over her own body but the husband, and likewise also the husband has no power of his own body but the wife.” This is found in 1 Corinthians 7: 3-4.  “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of God that your prayers be not hindered.” (1 Peter 3:7)

These are profound Scriptures! Are His Words merely suggestions, or are His Words our commands?  How are you measuring up to His commandments? Plan together how to bring your marriage in order under His truth. Decree: “We are becoming One!”

Decide to continue this 7-day prayer focus until His Word becomes flesh within. Ask the Lord to give you your own Scriptures to expand on.

“May the God who gives this patience and encouragement help you live in complete harmony with one another as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:6  Amen! He has provided all we need to become one flesh!
