A Mother’s Love Can Be The Most Outrageous Thing in the World

A Mother’s Love

What can a mother’s love achieve? I believe there is some valuable wisdom we can gain from a mother’s outrageous love as illustrated in II Samuel 21. Mother's Love

King David asked the Lord why the nation was experiencing a famine. His answer had to do with Saul killing the Gibeonites, even though Israel had made a covenant not to harm them.

In order to make payment for this wrong, David asked the Gibeonites what he could for them. They requested 7 male descendents of the man who tried to wipe them out so they could be killed.

King David handed them over to the Gibeonites, who executed them on the mountain. Their bodies were left exposed to the elements which included hungry birds and animals.

Rizpah, who was a daughter of the family of these  seven dead men, did an incredibly outrageous thing. She took her cloak and stretched it out for herself on the hard rock for the entire harvest time until it rained on the dead bodies.

She made sure that no birds or wild animals would be able to come near the bodies during the night. A mother’s love.

Upon hearing what Rizpah had done, King David was spurred on to retrieve the bones of Saul and of his son Jonathan. Their bones had been stolen from the public area where the Philistines had placed them the day Saul and Jonathan were killed.

Once David had recovered the bones of Saul and Jonathan, he ordered his men to bring the bones of the seven men who had been executed. They gave a proper
burial of the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Kish, Saul’s father. After all this, God heard and answered the prayers of the people for the land.

A Mother’s Love Moves Kings

This example of a mother’s love not only protected her sons’ bodies from attack, but also moved the the heart of a King to take the needed steps for restoration to the nation.

Rizpah probably counted the cost before her vigil, knowing full well what she would have to endure. She knew she would likely be facing a six month wait
with scorching heat and drought.

If the bodies were left alone, birds and beasts would consume them. Vultures  jackals, and crows each seeking its spoil. Rizpah would have to deny herself, and fight with all within her. She would need outrageous strength, only motivated by a mother’s love.

What is a mother’s love – a mother’s heart for her children who are alive? To see their destinies fulfilled.

A Mother’s Love Can Turn The Tide

So what can we gain from this amazing testimony of a mother’s love?  We can recognize that an outrageous love makes us the best warriors for our children. We will do whatever is necessary to keep the world and the enemy from our children.

We can act in faith knowing the Lord will keep what we have committed to Him, and that every promise in His Word is our weapon in the war. In places where we feel we missed it, or believe it is too late, we can recover our loses by doing whatever is necessary, even outrageous things.

We can find a way of hope no matter how helpless we feel or how bad things look!

Who knows, if we do these things, we may be surprised of the consequences. A neighbor, the mayor, the governor, or maybe even a king takes notice of our outrageous love, causing nations to change!

What Are The Blessings of Abraham For the 21st Century Christian?

What Are the Blessings of Abraham?

I’m sure you know who Abraham is but have you ever wondered what are the blessings of Abraham?

Some very common expressions heard in Christian circles today is “be blessed” or “I am blessed”. You don’t hear too many Christians talking about the blessings of Abraham, though. What Are The Blessings of Abraham

Why is that?

It’s either because they haven’t thought about it much or that they are scared to dig into it too deeply.

Do you know what the word “blessed” really means. I’m not talking about Webster’s definition here. Where did this wild word come from?

It’s English meaning is related to being a gift from God. There is also a reference to blood. Very interesting, as Maxwell Smart would say. Do you know
who he is? Never mind.

A more ancient meaning has to do with kneeling and presenting a gift. I know you are not looking for an English lesson so I will move on to Abraham quickly.

God revealed what are the blessings of Abraham when He pronounced the blessing over him. What did He say?

God told him first to move so that He could transform Him into a great nation. He then said He would bless him, make His name famous, and make sure he
would be a blessing to others. Sounds like a pretty awesome deal for Abraham and the descendants of Abraham.

The next thing God tells Abraham is the real clincher here. God promises that He will also bless those who bless Abraham.

He finishes this life-altering pronouncement by saying – look at this VERY CAREFULLY – that all the families of the earth will be blessed THROUGH Abraham.

You should be dancing and throwing a party by now after this bit of information.

Now that you know WHERE to go to receive God’s bountiful blessings, you logically need to know exactly what are the blessings of Abraham.

God said He would bless Abraham. Let’s look at exactly how he was blessed in His life AFTER he obeyed God and moved.

What Are the Blessings of Abraham?

1) Abraham soon acquired an abundance of possessions and wealth in the money of that day. God made him incredibly wealthy.

2) Another area of blessing was in overcoming his enemies, which was seen as he kicked the rear-ends of four kings and their armies. That’s is an area of
blessings that we all would like to benefit from these days.

What was Abraham’s response to all this? He gave a tenth of what he had to King Melchizedek.

3) A third area of blessing was a promise for children and a huge number of descendants. Up to this point, Sarah, his wife, had not born any children.

4) The fourth area of blessing was a new identity. God changed his name from Abram to Abraham.

God was giving him the name that was connected to his destiny. His new name had a specific meaning which was the “father of a great multitude”.

God did the same thing for Sarah, who was originally Sarai. Why did God do this?Because every day they would be calling each other by name into
their destinies, and helping to establish their new identities.

5) The last blessing of Abraham was an everlasting covenant that he could trust in knowing that the favor of God was his.

Abraham’s response to this covenant of blessing was obedience, tithing, and lastly faith. Abraham’s part was to be obedient and to believe.

That is our part also.

What Are The Blessings of Abraham?

Remember how God said that this covenant of blessing extended to Abraham’s offspring AND those who blessed him? All these same blessings belong to us.

We become Abraham’s seed through our confession of faith in Jesus Christ. He is even called our father of faith.

If every Christian has access to these blessings, why don’t we see more Christians walking in them? What are the blessings of Abraham?

They are for ANY Christian who responds to them WITH FAITH.

Reach For Your Dream and Never Back Down With These 6 Steps

You have a dream and its’ time to reach for your dream with everything you have. Each day that goes by is another chance to get one step closer to making your dream a reality.

Your dream is that picture of yourself that gets you stirred up and excited every time you think about it.

If you’re someone who doesn’t what that picture is yet, people close to you may be able to point you in the right direction.

Your dream is also the same thing as your purpose in life. Every person has a purpose or a destiny which was placed within them by God. This is the reason you were born. Make sure your dream lines up with your destiny.

Many have mistaken these two things and that can lead to a lot of wasted time and heartache. Other people can force a dream on you, but your destiny
can only be found within you.

Reach For Your Dream Now

Once you are sure what it is, reach for your dream and don’t quit until it comes true.

You might think this would be pretty easy to do, but most people never get there. That will not be the case with you because you are doing something about it right now just by reading this.

Reading this is a great start but you have to put what you learn here into action and refuse to back down.

So how can you reach for your dream and successfully get there? Here are the steps to follow to make sure you don’t end up empty-handed.

Reach For Your Dream Steps

1) Recognize that God is the source of your dream and stay close to Him throughout this process. Be willing to give Him the glory because as you do this,
He will lift you up and help make your way smoother.

2) You must have a high degree of certainty what your dream is. Young people often go through several different careers before they are able to settle on the real deal. Believe in your dream.

3) Be willing to stay patient as you reach for your dream because it MAY be a lengthy journey. I say this because your purpose in life may be quite complicated and require that you gain a variety of experiences. Never give up on your dreams.

4) Maintain a place of focus because as you reach for your dream, there will be distractions and obstacles that get in the way. These will make you stronger and appreciate the journey even more.

5) Pursue the training or experiences that will help to establish your path to reaching your dream. There is a time to wait for and a time to pursue the trainings that will enable you to stand in victory.

6) Remember that being with the right team can mean the difference missing or laying hold of your dream.

This team isn’t responsible for your success but can be an awesome resource to finally living your dreams.

Courageous Men’s Destiny Teams are forming right now to help you reach for your dream.

Is There a Dan Cathy Inside of You?

It amazes me how the simple words of Dan Cathy, President of Chick-Fil-A, can be having such a huge impact upon the culture of America.

Media reports immediately began to blast Dan Cathy and Chick-Fil-A for his supposedly anti-gay rhetoric during an interview with the Baptist Press.
Commentary from numerous media reporters labeled Dan and Chicki as filthy haters. Comments from those who are supportive of the gay agenda I will not repeat here due to the vulgarity.

This man simply said that he and the company he represents are supportive of the Biblical definition of the family. He also said he finds those who would try to redefine marriage as prideful and arrogant. What would you call someone who thinks they know better than God?

Let’s keep this very simple. Look at the words used by Dan Cathy and his employees and then look at the words coming from our media outlets and gay
establishments. You tell me now who is full of hate.

Reports from all over the nation are the same. Chick-Fil-A had record sales on Aug. 1st. The crowds came in the morning and continued into the evenings. Many restaurants ran out of food.

All because one man thought he was making a simple statement of his Biblical view of the family and applying Biblical principles to business. The Muppets
couldn’t stomach that and have crossed Chick-Fil-A off their list. They have every right to do so. I have every right to cross the Muppet’s off of my list, too.

I thank God that this whole series of events have happened. I don’t believe it is over yet. We are just seeing the beginning of an awakening of a nation that is starting to stand up and recognize this nation’s Christian and Biblical heritage.

I would be willing to bet that less than 20 percent of Americans would believe that at one point in our early history that Congress passed a law to approve funds to print Bibles to be used in our public schools.

And now over 230 years later, who could have imagined that this would be the start of the “chicken sandwich eaten around the world”?

I don’t believe Dan Cathy had a clue what would develop from his simple interview. He hasn’t backed down from all the criticism and that makes him
a man of courage and boldness.

I guess his statement of being in full support of the Biblical definition of the family was just the straw that broke the camel’s back of the liberal community. They ridiculed and mocked Chick-Fil-A’s stance of honoring the Sabbath. Honoring God was just too much for them to stomach.

The liberal community thought it was time to declare war on big mouths like Dan Cathy. Chicken-loving families (not Nancy Pelosi’s brand of chicken)
from all over the USA responded to the call. Our weapons of war are love and respect and the truth of God’s Word.

Let the games begin. A torch has been lit.

Is there a DAN CATHY inside of you?

College Students – Do You Bother To Guard Your Heart Anymore?

In today’s word loaded with entertainment, have you considered the need to guard your heart? There’s such a huge variety of books, movies, and music to pick from. Your eyes and your ears are gateways to your heart.

Would you allow me to sound an alarm or raise a tiny red flag? Before you run off to indulge yourself in a good book, or movie or music CD, let’s take a look at how to guard your heart.

Are there things you should and should NOT read, listen to, or watch?

Guard Your Heart-Books

A piece of literary art can keep you in your room by yourself for hours. You probably don’t have a clue what’s going on around you.

That’s because your senses are so absorbed by your imagination being locked into your senses activated by the details of the story. You have been transferred to another place entirely.

By the time you finish the book, you feel groggy and maybe even disorientated. You take in your reality and wonder what happened to my time. You’ve been so indulged into your little adventure that reality slaps you in the face.

Another effect is that you can’t stop thinking about the book. It invades your thoughts, and soon you find that those ideas are influencing you. If you are like me, you start quoting the ideas and statements from the book.

The book has in fact become a part of you just like the steak and eggs you ate for breakfast. You are reading more than just letters on a page.

That writer had a purpose and the words they chose came from their spirit or soul. That is why the written word is so powerful. Did you forget to guard your heart?

Guard Your Heart-Music

Music is another form of media that rocks your soul in a very different way from a book. You will notice many people like to close their eyes when listening to music. This tends to increase the intensity of the impact it can have on you.

Have you heard the saying that music can soothe the savage college student? College is a rich time for young adults to explore their emotional natures.

Many will allow themselves to be drawn into different situations just to find out how it feels. Sometimes they get in over their ears. Music can also stir up the savage college student.

What do you think is the average age of concert goers? It’s twenty years. Young people long for and will chase after emotional experiences. Music can provide a potent and influential experience. Consumers spent over $6 billion last year for on-line music downloads alone.

Unless you are listening to an instrumental piece, you are listening to musical notes AND lyrics. The song’s writer had a message to convey and they were doing that from their soul. With headphones on, I ask, “Did you forget to guard your heart?”

Guard Your Heart-Movies and TV

Movies and television may exert the strongest influence upon its viewers of all the entertainment media. They engage your sense of sight and hearing. This creates twice the effect in a short period of time. The rampage murderer in Colorado painted himself up like the joker.

Before you try to get upset, I am not saying that Batman was the cause of that tragedy. The movie did plant an image in his mind that he chose to imitate in a very twisted way. Was this young man guarding his heart?

The question comes down to what kind of standard should you set in order to adequately guard your heart. That standard may be different for different people.

Whether you are reading a book, listening to a music CD, or watching a show, I strongly suggest that you take the time to draw a standard for yourself.

Draw the line somewhere and commit not to step over it. Violence and sexual themes are two no-brainer areas that you will want to address.

Also, ask yourself what value this piece of entertainment has that can make you a better person.

Would you put rocks in your coffee grinder? Your heart, the core of who are becoming, is most valuable. Consequently, above all else, guard your heart.

Living a Life of Purity Is a Quest Worth Pursuing

As we continue on this quest to a life of purity, the following scripture from Proverbs 4:4-6 confirms we are on the right path. A pure heart is reachable through laying hold of the wisdom hidden in God’s Word.

It states,”He taught me and said to me: Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live. Get skillful and Godly Wisdom, get understanding; do not forget and do not turn back from the words of my mouth.Forsake not Wisdom and she will keep, defend, and protect you; love her, and she will guard you.”

Living a life of purity is  possible, as our hearts are flooded with the wisdom of God’s Word.

As we get to the heart of the matter regarding living a life of purity, it is pretty obvious that we must let His Word dictate what we do. Use this Godly wisdom daily in order to guard your hearts.

Our hearts are constantly being bombarded with the corrupt things of this world. They come especially through the onslaught of greed, lust, and immorality through a variety of media sources.

The statistics would seem to say that it is impossible to live a life of purity, to obtain a pure heart. Let’s take a quick look at some of them.

Pornography

In 2003,there were an estimated 1.3 million pornographic websites with 260 million pages. In just 3 years that number jumped to 4.2 million sites and
420 million pornographic pages.

At a 2003 meeting of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, two thirds of the 350 divorce lawyers who attended said the internet played a significant role in the divorces in the past year. They blamed the excessive interest in online porn to more than half of their cases. (Divorcewizards.com)

From a 1996 Promise Keepers survey at one of their stadium events, it was revealed that over 50% of the men in attendance were involved with pornography within one week of attending the event.

Media

In an opinion poll conducted for TV Guide (8/2/03), 57% of TV viewers said they “noticed an increase in offensive material on television lately.”

In a national opinion poll conducted for Common Sense Media, 64% of parents with at least one child between the ages of 2 and 17 believed media
products in general were inappropriate for their families.” (NY Times, 5/21/03)

In a national survey by Public Agenda, “about 90% [of parents] say TV programs are getting worse every year because of bad language and adult
themes in shows that air from 8 to 10 p.m. (USA TODAY, 10/30/02)

Over 1000 studies – including a Surgeon General’s special report in 1972 and a National Institute of Mental Health report 10 years later – attest to a
causal connection between media violence and aggressive behavior in some children.

Studies show that the more “real-life” the violence portrayed, the greater the likelihood that it will be “learned.” (American Academy of Pediatrics
Policy Statement, June 1995)

Though these statistics may look grim, remember that we are gaining wisdom on our quest towards Godly purity.

I have developed a 10 day prayer devotional available at our Family Life Winners blog to help you gain victory in living a life of purity, and maintaining a pure heart.

Let’s pray together: “O God, help me to turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things , and get my focus on You and Your Holy Word. Give me the wisdom I need to live a life of purity – I want to see You!

Charleen Ecuyer

P.S.

Here is a link to the start of the devotional for living a LIFE OF PURITY.

Purity Devotional – Day 1

Filed under: Charleen's Kitchen of Life — admin @ 7:26 pm

Matthew 5:8″Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

Remember to read and meditate on the scriptures given each day. It is possible to live a life of purity, gain a pure heart, and see God! The premise for this devotional comes from 1 Peter 2:2, “like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.”

Day 1:

Read Psalm 24:3-5. “Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.”

Ask the Lord to show you any way you haven’t been pure in heart, or walked in purity.  Repent of your failings.  Receive fully His forgiveness and forgive yourself.

Meditate on 1 Peter 2:2.  Ask the Lord to put in you a desire for the pure milk of His Word.

Day 2:

Read and mediate on this passage from Philippians 1:9-11 “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

Pray this prayer to the Lord for yourself.

Day 3:

Philippians 2:12b”…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.”  Most of us would like our salvation to be automatic. Wouldn’t it be great that when we give our hearts to Christ, we immediately become pure–act completely like Jesus, love everyone, do everything beautifully, and walk as supernatural beings?

Though I do believe it is possible to live a life of purity, we have to remember the wisdom in Galatians 5:17.”The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.”

Let’s ask the Lord to show us what in our flesh is warring against our Spirit; ask Him to help us gain victory over our flesh in these areas. Declare this: My flesh must submit to my Spirit!

Here is the link to Day 4.

Bless you,

Charleen

Purity Devotional – Day 4

Filed under: Charleen's Kitchen of Life — admin @ 7:19 pm

Day 4:

1 Corinthians 6:18 “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.”

Colossians 3:5 “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

In the Corinthians scripture, we are told to flee, run away from, immorality, while in Colossians we are commanded to put to death these evil desires.

God never gives us a command, unless it will help us.  We can always know His advise is for our good and the good of others. We need to kill these desires.

Idolatry puts self interests for evil things ahead of Him. Once idols are set up in our hearts, we serve this to get what we want, rather than obeying God’s law.

Ask the Lord to show you any idolatry in your life, repent, and tell Him you will have no other gods before Him. Now begin to act on this.  Don’t allow anything to rule you, but Him.

Day 5:

1 Peter 1:6-7 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.

He knows you long to be pure. so exercise your faith today trusting when we ask, we receive. Everything that is not of faith, is sin.

Decide to trust Him with all your heart.  Spend time greatly rejoicing for this time, knowing you will see the end of your faith, you will live a life of purity.

Day 6:

Hebrews 11:11 “Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.”

Hebrews 11:6  “But without faith it is impossible to please God: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.

If you believe that He is, diligently seek Him, and judge Him faithful.

Day 7:

James 3:6 “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”

Stop agreeing with the enemy that you will never be pure and speak what the your Heavenly Father says about you in His Word, and about what He can do for you.

With men this would be impossible, but with God, all things are possible! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Ask the Lord to help you to put a guard about your mouth, that you only speak His truth regarding every situation. Spend time looking for scriptures to make a part of a daily confession.

Day 8:

Pray this Psalm today and know He is faithful to answer.

Psalm 51:6-10

Behold, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart.

Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall [in reality] be whiter than snow.

Make me to hear joy and gladness and be satisfied; let the bones which You have broken rejoice.

Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my guilt and iniquities.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.”

Day 9:

Ever notice, almost everyone thinks they are right, but it is only through the study of His Word and by His Spirit, that we can know the truth.

Proverbs 16:2 “All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit.

Let’s pray, Father, where I think I am right, and I am wrong, please show me. I pray when you weigh my spirit, you find it pleasing to you.

Day 10:

We have to remember, we have an extremely long life waiting for us in eternity, and this life on earth is but a breath.Do we really want to forfeit eternity for some worldly temporary lusts?

Let’s read 1 Timothy 4:8:”for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

Godliness simply means God like.  We must pursue living a Godly life in the midst of a mostly ungodly culture! As we do, we will be happier, more fulfilled, blessed…and greater than this, others will see it is possible.  This world desperately needs to see people living in the world, and  overcoming the world.

Let’s meditate on this scripture from Jude:

But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

And of some have compassion, making a difference:

And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

In closing, God sacrificed His only Son so that we could live a life of purity, unspotted from the world. Jesus modeled exactly how He wants us to live. He supplied our every need. Let’s be an example of those having a pure heart in today’s culture.

We at FamilyLifeWinners ask and encourage you to consider doing this devotional 3 times. It doesn’t take long and it will establish a 3-fold cord that cannot easily be broken.

Bless you,

Charleen
