College Students – Do You Bother To Guard Your Heart Anymore?

In today’s word loaded with entertainment, have you considered the need to guard your heart? There’s such a huge variety of books, movies, and music to pick from. Your eyes and your ears are gateways to your heart.

Would you allow me to sound an alarm or raise a tiny red flag? Before you run off to indulge yourself in a good book, or movie or music CD, let’s take a look at how to guard your heart.

Are there things you should and should NOT read, listen to, or watch?

Guard Your Heart-Books

A piece of literary art can keep you in your room by yourself for hours. You probably don’t have a clue what’s going on around you.

That’s because your senses are so absorbed by your imagination being locked into your senses activated by the details of the story. You have been transferred to another place entirely.

By the time you finish the book, you feel groggy and maybe even disorientated. You take in your reality and wonder what happened to my time. You’ve been so indulged into your little adventure that reality slaps you in the face.

Another effect is that you can’t stop thinking about the book. It invades your thoughts, and soon you find that those ideas are influencing you. If you are like me, you start quoting the ideas and statements from the book.

The book has in fact become a part of you just like the steak and eggs you ate for breakfast. You are reading more than just letters on a page.

That writer had a purpose and the words they chose came from their spirit or soul. That is why the written word is so powerful. Did you forget to guard your heart?

Guard Your Heart-Music

Music is another form of media that rocks your soul in a very different way from a book. You will notice many people like to close their eyes when listening to music. This tends to increase the intensity of the impact it can have on you.

Have you heard the saying that music can soothe the savage college student? College is a rich time for young adults to explore their emotional natures.

Many will allow themselves to be drawn into different situations just to find out how it feels. Sometimes they get in over their ears. Music can also stir up the savage college student.

What do you think is the average age of concert goers? It’s twenty years. Young people long for and will chase after emotional experiences. Music can provide a potent and influential experience. Consumers spent over $6 billion last year for on-line music downloads alone.

Unless you are listening to an instrumental piece, you are listening to musical notes AND lyrics. The song’s writer had a message to convey and they were doing that from their soul. With headphones on, I ask, “Did you forget to guard your heart?”

Guard Your Heart-Movies and TV

Movies and television may exert the strongest influence upon its viewers of all the entertainment media. They engage your sense of sight and hearing. This creates twice the effect in a short period of time. The rampage murderer in Colorado painted himself up like the joker.

Before you try to get upset, I am not saying that Batman was the cause of that tragedy. The movie did plant an image in his mind that he chose to imitate in a very twisted way. Was this young man guarding his heart?

The question comes down to what kind of standard should you set in order to adequately guard your heart. That standard may be different for different people.

Whether you are reading a book, listening to a music CD, or watching a show, I strongly suggest that you take the time to draw a standard for yourself.

Draw the line somewhere and commit not to step over it. Violence and sexual themes are two no-brainer areas that you will want to address.

Also, ask yourself what value this piece of entertainment has that can make you a better person.

Would you put rocks in your coffee grinder? Your heart, the core of who are becoming, is most valuable. Consequently, above all else, guard your heart.

Find Your Destiny – Should Men Over 50 Bother?

I am becoming more convinced that it is crucial to find your destiny in life. Once you discover your God-given destiny, then you must pursue it until you get your breakthroughs.

By definition, your destiny is something bigger than you. It isn’t something you can come up with on your own. It’s what you were put on this earth by God to get done. You can go after plenty of careers, but none of them may be your destiny in life.

The mistake many people make is that they feel they must get a job with the most money-making potential. They go after the jobs that seem the most popular. They get excited when they see those paychecks coming in. They fall for the trap that the big money is what it is all about.

Responsibilities build up and the expenses to raise a family get larger and larger. Thinking about what you were placed on this earth for tends to get lost in all this shuffle.

Find Your Destiny Miracle

Then something miraculous happens. You start realizing that you are in the middle of your best years and you start wondering what you really were supposed to do with your life.

If you are over 50, is it too late to find your destiny? The answer to that question is most definitely NO. I know that for a fact because I am 52 years old and I still haven’t achieved my destiny.

FIND YOUR DESTINY – MEN OVER 50

Men over 50, you are uniquely positioned to find your destiny and then achieve it. This is true for several reasons.

First, God never gives up on us. Moses was about 80 years old before he found his destiny and fulfilled God’s calling on his life.

Second, the life experiences of 50 years can bring much wisdom and the ability to handle pressure better. It also will hopefully enable you to work better with others. Ronald Reagan was 56 years old when he became the governor of California and was a grand old 70 years when he became President of the United States. Wow!

You tell me whether you think Ronald Reagan’s true destiny was playing the Gipper in Knute Rockne or playing a significant role in the tearing down of the Berlin Wall and seeing the Cold War with Russia come to an end.

Third, after 50 years you are more focused and determined to accomplish something meaningful with your life. Abraham Lincoln was 52 years old
when he became President. He was determined to see an end to slavery in America and endured the anguish of several lost elections and failed businesses before he achieved a place of authority that allowed him to shape the course of a nation.

Fourth, many men over 50 years of age have learned the value of thinking beyond themselves and creating opportunities to benefit others. Mahatma
Gandhi was 52 when he took over leadership of the Indian National Congress which led numerous campaigns to improve the conditions of the millions
of destitute poor in India.

It is within this fourth reason that we find a true key to help you find your destiny. Your God-given destiny will always point to improving the lives of others and not just meeting your own needs.

If you are a man over 50, do not count yourself out. There are destiny teams waiting to help you FIND YOUR DESTINY now. If you are under 50 years
old, your youthfulness will still be appreciated and welcome.

Discover Your Destiny and Change Your World

Once you discover your destiny in life, the door to changing your world will open up. You are not a random blob on the face of this earth but a magnificent treasure waiting to be uncovered . Your life has a specific purpose.

God did not close His eyes and randomly throw everything up and wait to see what would stick. Just like a football team or a recipe, everything has a set place and purpose. Things get messed up when we decide to do what we want and ignore God’s purpose and destiny for our lives.

The great news is that you no longer have to be like millions who are struggling with the answer to what is their destiny. You can finally know what is your destiny now.

Discover Your Destiny Journey

Thinking about your God-given destiny and pursuing the details about your destiny is a great place to start. There is much more involved, however.

There are many forces in play that are working against you on your path to discover your destiny in life. As a  result, it becomes very important for you to pursue your destiny like a bulldog. It won’t come jump on you and it won’t wait for the right alignment of the stars.

While what I’m saying applies equally to men and women, my destiny involves ministry to men. Men walking according to God’s purposes are a huge key to the health of our families, the church, and our nation.

If you do not take the time to discover your destiny, you will be settling for a lifetime of misery, confusion, and aimless journeys. You will never feel satisfied and you’ll keep looking for the greener grass in your neighbor’s yard. That is bad news.

The great news is once you have discovered your destiny, the real challenge and adventure begins. Using Frodo from the Fellowship of the Ring series as an example, there is a vital lesson to learn as you start your journey. Do not try to do this alone.

Achieving your destiny is a journey and what you need is consistent support, prayer, and Godly fellowship to successfully stay the course. You need a team working with you who are committed to help their fellow team members.

A destiny team like this will be your lifeline to help discover your destiny and also to walk in your God-given destiny.

I love what Ephesians 2:10 says,”For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which He prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Discover Your Destiny Teams

A team designed to propel you towards walking in the fullness of your destiny should focus on these things:

1) Helping you discover your destiny,
2) Providing counsel and confirmation of your destiny,
3) Assisting you in gaining divine strategies and action steps,
4) Providing encouragement and support to be persistent in your quest,
5) Helping you to evaluate, adjust, and refine your steps.

For men of God to accomplish this, courage and determination are required. You no longer have to ask this question: Do YOU have what it takes? The real question becomes: Are you part of a Courageous Destiny Team?

Don’t put your destiny off any longer. Join a Destiny Team and             DISCOVER YOUR DESTINY at this link now.

Christian Homeschooling and the Destiny of Men

Christian homeschooling is strategically positioned in our culture to usher in a new era of reform. We have witnessed the failure of our governments to make the necessary changes for many years.

The Christian homeschooling community in America has the awesome opportunity to not only influence the fabric of our society, but also to be a
nation-changing light to countries that have allowed homeschooling to take root.

Christian Homeschooling Fathers

While homeschooling families typically focus on moms educating their children with Christian-based curriculum, the role of the father in this setting must make a shift. Men can no longer be satisfied to take a back seat.

Christian fathers and husbands must step up and go beyond their accepted role of simply providing support for their wives in the vital task of homeschooling.

Why am I saying this? Because Christian men need to provide loving direction and apply Godly wisdom to the thoughts and goals of their children. It is very important that our children begin to look at the future the Lord has established for them at any early age.

Christian Homeschooling Destiny

The Godly destinies of our children, once they become reality, have the power to change the destructive course that America has been on for the last 50 years. Christian homeschooling Moms and Dads have the primary responsibility to provide their children with the spiritual instruction and practical support to see that this happens.

The first key towards creating this “destiny atmosphere” in your home is for Dad and Mom to be living out their God-given destinies. This is no easy task as I am sure you are aware. Your destiny will not just fall into your lap. It is something you must pursue relentlessly with Godly help.

By successfully living out your destiny in front of your home schooled children, you are giving them a path to follow that will change this nation and the world. We are establishing the next generation of world-changers. Is this not fantastic news?

Christian Homeschooling World-Changers

Do you think this is grandiose thinking? Were we not called and given the anointing to change this world through the blood and love of Christ ?
Obviously, the power word in Christian homeschooling is not homeschooling but in the fact that it is based in the life-giving power of Christ.

I believe the vast majority of Christian men are not walking in their destiny because they don’t really know what their destiny is in Jesus. This condition cannot continue. As Christian homeschoolers, we are missing out on the chance of giving our children the living examples of our lives in fulfilling our destinies.

I am 52 years old and I have a good sense of what my destiny is in Jesus. The place I have struggled in big-time is walking it out. I finally realized that I needed to have committed support from other Godly men to help me achieve my destiny.

That is why I believe the Lord has directed me to establish the Courageous Men’s Destiny Teams(CMDT). These online teams of 4 men are structured to help other men discover and walk out their destinies.

Quitters Don’t Reach Their Destinies

Quitters are becoming more plentiful these days. People quit their marriages and their families and their jobs on a regular basis now. Please excuse my bluntness, but are you a quitter?

If you are, or if you have quit something important in your life, you can do something about it.

Things were not always like this. History is full of stories of individuals, both famous and unknown, who refused to quit in the face of overwhelming odds.

Quitters Don’t Make History

One of my favorites is Abraham Lincoln. He started a couple of businesses which failed and ran for public office several times and lost before he became President of the United States. You would think he was a glutton for punishment. He was determined to see something done about the slavery issue.

I know personally what it feels like to run for office and lose. I don’t know if I will step back into the political field again but I can tell you it was extremely discouraging after putting all that effort into it.

While quitters know no distinction between races or gender or age, it is one thing to quit a simple project at home and it is another thing to quit a job that will affect your whole family. Quitting almost always has some negative side effects.

The real danger, though starts when someone begins to develop a habit of quitting when things get tough. The important things in life always come
with challenges, and we must be prepared to push through those tough situations.

Rocky Doesn’t Play With Quitters

Almost everyone is familiar with the movie series Rocky. I think his movies were so popular because they helped to spur us on to keep working and fighting for something that was important.

Not giving up is one of the most important character traits we can ever develop in our lives. Every research study that has looked at the traits of the wealthy includes persistence. To succeed in life, whether you are talking money or health or family, you can’t afford to join the ranks of the quitters.

Quitters and Destiny Don’t Match

You have a destiny that was established by God to succeed in life, but you won’t ever reach it if quitting is an easy option. Quitters never win. If you have developed a habit of quitting or have shown this tendency to quit before, I am here to tell you that all is not lost, if you are a man.

All is not lost if you are a woman, but I can’t be of any practical help to women in this position. I have created a program that is designed to assist men in discovering their destiny and in achieving their God-given destiny.

It is called the Courageous Men’s Destiny Teams (CMDT) and being on one of these on-line teams will make it difficult for you to remain a quitter. It is much easier to drop out of the race if you are on your own. These teams will give their team members encouragement, counsel, and prayer support.

Get off the QUITTERS team and see your destiny come to pass by joining our teams at the link above.

Fighting Temptations That Christian Men Face

To be successful at fighting temptations, Christian men should never let anyone know about the struggles they are facing. If you believe that statement, then you must have missed a lot of Sunday school when you were young.

Are You Fighting Temptations?

It is true that Christian men struggle a lot with letting other men in on their private struggles. I believe they think it is a sign of weakness to do this, and that is when that old ugly head of pride kicks in. As a result, they sink deeper and deeper into the grip of some particular temptation.

For the most part, all men have to face the same type of temptations. Being a Christian can sometimes mean that you will have more intense temptations to face. Do any of these temptations sound familiar?

Fighting Temptations List

Have you had to deal with fighting temptations related to responding harshly to your wife or child, or the constant struggle with keeping your eyes, ears, and hearts pure from the filth on TV and the internet, or working with complete integrity at your job, or keeping your motivations Godly when it comes to gaining wealth and promotion?

As Christians we can take comfort in the fact that Jesus has experienced and overcome every temptation known to man. His grace and mercy is available to us all to help get us back on the right path.

The temptations of Jesus can be one source of help to us. You know the story of Christ’s temptation and I won’t repeat it here. Here is one view that you probably

Fighting Temptations 3 P’s

The first temptation of Jesus had to do with provision. The second temptation of Jesus had to deal with protection and the third temptation of Jesus involved position. Are these not 3 very common temptations to men, even Christian men?

While some temptations involve the ugly side of our worldly nature, fighting temptations like these are noble and we must learn how to fight successfully.

As Christian fathers and husbands, part of our God-given role is to be ultimately responsible for our family’s provision for material and spiritual needs. Sometimes there are lines or temptations that we may cross in order to fulfill this responsibility. That is because we have lost sight of the fact that our Heavenly Father is the only true source of our provision.

Another God-given role is one of being a protector of the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our family. This is becoming increasingly more troublesome in the violent times we are living in.

The third area of temptation has to do with ambition. There is such a thing as Godly ambition in that we have been called to be the head, to be above only, and to be in a wealthy position of lending and not borrowing. This is found in Deuteronomy 28.

We must be very careful not to resort to ungodly methods of reaching these positions in life. We must be careful to make sure that we honor the Lord in all that we do. He is the one who will promote us in due time.

Fighting temptations successfully must also be done day after day because the temptations rarely go away. That is why Godly men need assistance from other Godly men.

There is help now for you through the Courageous Men’s Destiny Teams(CMDT). I invite you now to check out how these teams can help you in
FIGHTING TEMPTATIONS successfully.

A Godly Man Must Pursue His Destiny

The definition of a Godly man must be a man who has a desire to be like God. This is a natural desire if you believe you were made in the image of God. That is a noble thing but it is another thing altogether to actually make progress towards this goal.

To be like God also involves the willingness to submit to God and to His ways and plans. That includes, in a big way, His plan for our lives. In order to be a Godly man, one must be concerned with God’s plan for your life or your destiny.

A Godly Man Has A Destiny

Thinking about your God-given destiny and wanting to know the details about your destiny is a great place for Godly men to start. There is much more involved, however.

There are many forces in play that are working against you on your path to realizing your destiny in life. As a  result , it becomes very important for you to pursue your destiny. It won’t come jump on you and it won’t wait for the right alignment of the stars.

A Godly Man Looks Like

A Godly man must be persistent, must walk in faith and prayer, must be willing to invest in others, and must seek the counsel and support of other Godly brothers in Christ.

Years ago I felt a calling from the Lord to run for a state office. I was shocked by this and spent time praying about it, discussing it with my wife, and getting advice form some close friends. I decided that this was indeed a path that the Lord wanted me to take.

Everything involved with running a campaign was a struggle for me. There were endless nights making phone calls. I involved my family in designing campaign signs and getting permission to post them across my district in Louisiana.

There were numerous receptions and debates and interviews which I just thoroughly enjoyed. I put a huge amount of effort in what I believed was my destiny from the Lord. I sacrificed a lot of time with my family.

To make a long and painful story very short, I did not win the race. I was quite devastated. I asked the Lord what went wrong. My conclusion was that I had submitted to the Lord and ran a campaign that honored Him. I had to leave the results up to Him.

The point is that I pursued what I truly believed to be my destiny in Christ as a Godly man. Do I still believe that my God-given destiny is to serve people through a government office? It may still be in my future some day.

I do feel certain that my destiny involves working with men to become Godly fathers and husbands. There is such a strong desire in my heart to provide men with a vehicle to help them discover their destiny and support to achieve it.

That’s why the Courageous Men’s Destiny Teams were created.

If you call yourself A GODLY MAN or want to learn about Godly manhood, I challenge you – I double-dare you – to go to the link above.

A Much Needed Follow-Up To Promise Keepers

Promise Keepers has done an awesome job of ministering to men all over the United States and overseas for the past 20 years. Their ministry is accomplished through large stadium gatherings where thousands of men can learn how to walk with integrity through a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.

Promise Keepers Beliefs

The core beliefs or the 7 Promises of Promisekeepers are life-changing principles to live by. They are deep principles that demand a commitment in order for them to become pillars of stability in your life.

While the Promise Keeper conferences are emotionally and spiritually moving, there needs to be vehicles that men can hop onto after the conference is over. This follow up needs to be easily accessible for men so they have a way to continue on the path of Godly manhood.

My Promise Keepers Experience

I remember when I attended a conference at the Superdome in New Orleans years ago and became a promise keeper. It was a very powerful spiritual experience for me. I was already a born again Christian but I learned some very useful and practical steps I could take to grow spiritually.

The problem is that this journey of spiritual growth cannot reach its fullest without the companionship of other believers. Several months down the road those powerful principles were now lost in the busyness of my life.

Were there any ways for me to join with some men in my church to keep these Godly principles operating in my life? Yes, but it would have taken a lot of effort and time for me to get those men motivated. As a result, it didn’t happen.

Christian men and women all face this same challenge of keeping our walk of faith and love fresh and alive day after day. There must be a simple way to follow up and build much-needed spiritual momentum just as I needed after attending Promise Keepers.

Effective Promise Keepers Follow Up

To keep that momentum growing for men, something else is required. It is called “fellowship” with a purpose. I know this is a difficult word and activity for most men. Men usually avoid fellowship because it threatens their sense of independence, their sense of being a conqueror.

That is why Courageous Men’s Destiny Teams were developed. These are small teams of 4 men who have a heart to learn about the things of God
and pursue His picture of what it means to be a man. This is not a Bible study and it is done over the internet with skype preferably or chatting.

Whether men will admit it or not, they need the support from other Godly men and it takes courageous to face up to that and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

So here is the challenge men. I’m getting up in your face and telling you that it’s okay to say I can’t live a Godly life on my own. I can’t walk with integrity at my job and as a husband and father by myself.

I challenge you to spend 5 minutes right now and learn about this vital follow up to PROMISE KEEPERS here. If you have never attended PK, you are still welcome to become a courageous man of God.

The Outrageously Simple Solution for Ministry To Men

Ministry to men is a huge key to the health of our families, the church, and even our nation. I applaud the awesome work that is being done by many men’s ministry organizations all over the world. But it’s not enough! HAAAA!

Ministry To Men

It is not enough because there are many men who will continue to avoid the hands-on, kum-bai-ya, face-to-face church ministry that is currently available. Men for the most part are not “touchy and feely” when it comes to new social events, and especially spiritual gatherings.

You’ll have to hog-tie most of them and throw them in your trunk to get them to attend a men’s event. The problem is that you’ll never see them again.

Churches are constantly struggling to come up with new mens ministry ideas to attract new men. While daily devotions for men are an important tool to help equip men, other methods must be developed.

There are several obstacles that must be overcome before men will become a part of a church’s ministry to men. Let’s take a look at what some of those nuclear waste zones are and the plan to deal with them.

Ministry To Men Obstacles

1) Responsibilities: Many men already feel so stretched thin with their responsibilities (like NFL weekends and backyard barbecues) that they are
slow to add on another worthwhile activity.

2) Self-Evaluation: One thing men avoid like the shopping mall is taking a closer look inside to find out where they are missing it. This is really a useless activity since men are rarely wrong and have little to improve on.

3) Communication: Men typically communicate about practical or superficial things and struggle with sharing their feelings and heart-felt
desires. A common conversation may sound like this:”You better pass me those chips before I douse you with this salsa.”

4) Superman Complex: Every man has a secret identity complex in which he believes he is “stronger than a locomotive.” To admit that he is struggling with some character defect would be worse than retiring his riding lawnmower. Men put on a strong front to a ridiculous fault.

5) Accountability: This is one of the biggest secrets to success in life, but few men will submit to it. Every person would benefit by getting an accountability partner. Can anyone say, “the hole I am in is getting deeper”?

6) Procrastination: I’ll have to do a great job of explaining this one because no man is going to have a clue what I’m talking about. Several things can cause this behavior like fatigue, or being disatisfied about something or sometimes there can be a spiritual cause.

7) Prayer-phobia: This is the fear of praying around others. Prayer is a powerful activity, especially when there is agreement with others.

Even men who are already involved with some type of church men’s ministry can get contaminated by these toxic attitudes.  The great news is there is a way to handle these dangerous obstacles without wearing a decontamination suit.

Obedience To God Keeps You Standing Through the Storms

Your obedience to God will often mean the difference between success and ruin in your life. Many times we foolishly convince ourselves that we know what the best course of action is, and a careless prayer tossed into the heavens will secure our future paths.

It’s a bit like many adolescents who think they are ready to take on any challenge while dismissing their parents’ “out-dated” ideas. I admire their boldness and passion, but the warning signs laid out on the path ahead by good old Mom and Dad are there for a good reason.

Obedience To God is Wise

While we may have a more complete picture of circumstances that our children face, our Heavenly Father knows ALL the in’s and out’s and the up’s and down’s for every situation. He is aware of every possible variable for the challenges we will face and His desire is for us to come out on top.

Our culture teaches a very dangerous myth that will prevent us from getting to that place on top.  Many people, both young and old, live by the myth that obedience to God is boring and confining. They want to be able to say “I did it my way.”

“It’s exciting to be rebellious” is screaming at our young men and women through music and media and all types of entertainment. The problem is there is a huge price to pay when they fall for those lies.

Thank the Lord that He sent His son Jesus who paid the price of our disobedience. It is through His sacrifice and resurrection that we can be restored from the destructive effects of our disobedience.

Obedience To God Is…

A simple but very important key to our obedience to God is walking with God. As we do this, we start talking to Him and more importantly we learn how to LISTEN to Him. It takes quiet and practice to listen to God.

God talks to us in many ways: through the Bible, through the still small voice of our spirit man, through circumstances (we need to be really careful here), through others, through dreams,  and through the wisdom and counsel from His Holy Spirit.

The big question is what are you going to do after you hear what God is saying. Obedience to God is not that tough. It is simply making a decision to SUBMIT to His wisdom and strategy for a situation. I know the word”submit” is a dirty word in today’s culture.

Without it, you risk missing out on being an over-comer. Obedience to God is a powerful force that will unleash heaven on your behalf and give you victory in the face of all kinds of trying circumstances.

Not only can we stand tall in the face of those coming storms, but we can gain new ground and new rewards and favor. This may be tough to believe but God is a REWARDER. Being rewarded is a scriptural concept. It is God’s plan.

I invite you to take a close look at what Jesus said about obedience in Luke 6:46-49.

Following God’s plan for your life and for those everyday decisions is always much easier if you have some Godly help. Check out our  online Courageous Men’s Destiny Teams to help your OBEDIENCE TO GOD.
