Jesus  is Our Advocate

Sometimes when we examine ourselves, we forget the truth that Jesus is our advocate. On our behalf, He did not leave us as orphans but sent His Spirit to live within us as our advocate. Holy Spirit within us can sift through us very quickly meeting our deepest needs. We were blessed with this internal monitor once we gave our hearts to Christ and welcomed His Spirit to fill us. Jesus is our advocate!

Scriptures to Review:

John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” 

Romans 8:9-17 “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

 Romans 8:26-27 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” 

1 Corinthians 2:9-11 “Things which the eye has not seen and the ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.  For God has unveiled them and revealed them to us through the [Holy] Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things [diligently], even [sounding and measuring] the [profound] depths of God [the divine counsels and things far beyond human understanding]. For what person knows the thoughts and motives of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So also no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” 

Jesus is Our Advocate by His Spirit Within Us

We are God’s very own children and heirs with Christ. What a comfort to know His Spirit helps us in any weakness! His Spirit also makes intercession for us. He is able to search our hearts and our minds drawing us to the perfect will of Yahweh, our Creator!  

Prayer

Father, help us to remember we are Spirit beings living in a body. Thank you for Your Spirit living within us bearing witness that we are truly children of Yours and joint heirs with Christ. As we examine ourselves, let us rely on Your Spirit and not on our flesh to create in us clean hearts acceptable to You. May we remember Jesus is our advocate in all things.

Confession: Holy Spirit bears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God. I am an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ. Holy Spirit makes intercession on my behalf according to the will of God! Jesus is our advocate!
