How To Have A Quiet Time With God

Have you ever felt the need to get off by yourself and get away from all the craziness going on? This happens to all of us. So that we don’t lose ourselves to the fast-paced life swirling around us,  it is so important to learn how to have a quiet time with God as often as possible.

These Scriptures are a reminder of why we benefit from a quiet time with the Lord:

Mark 1:35 Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left [the house], and went out to a secluded place, and was praying there.

Lamentations 3:40-41Let us search out and examine our ways,
And turn back to the Lord; Let us lift our hearts and hands To God in heaven.”

Psalm 139:24  “And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”

Isaiah 26:9 With my soul I have desired You in the night, yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

Learning to do a Quiet Time with God

I learned the most valuable lesson regarding my walk with the Lord when I attended a youth conference as a youth leader. Though I had been serving the Lord, loving Him dearly, I had never heard about “quiet times”, which seems so ludicrous now, even as I am writing this.

I was reading my Bible, praying, doing lots of Spiritual things, but learning how to do a quiet time with God revolutionized my life. This should be a regular part of every day. (A quiet time is time set apart every day–to hear the Lord, to seek Him, to read and study His Word, to worship, and to enjoy the benefits of a relationship with Him.) These are dangerous times. We must hear Him and walk in a close personal bond with Him.

 Discipline Yourself

1 Timothy 4:1-7 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified [set apart, dedicated to God] by means of the word of God and prayer. If you point out these instructions to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished [through study] on the words of the faith and of the good [Christian] doctrine which you have closely followed. But have nothing to do with irreverent folklore and silly myths. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness [keeping yourself spiritually fit].

Prayer and Confession About a Quiet Time:

Prayer:  Father, may we never depart from the faith. Sanctify us by Your Word and prayer. May Your Word constantly nourish us. Help us to discipline ourselves for the purpose of godliness remaining spiritually fit. Help me to make it a priority to learn how to have a quiet time with God, my loving Father.

Confession: I will never depart from the faith. I will discipline myself for godliness and remain spiritually fit.
